Indigenous Birth has been a living act of justice for founder Marinah V. Farrell since she was a young child learning traditional medicine from her mother, many relatives and the sacred teachings of the midwives and healers of Mexico.

Indigenous midwives have always existed, exist today, and will always exist. This is the knowing that is the foundation of Indigenous Birth, and the work we do.

Indigenous Birth is a fiscally sponsored not-for-profit organization focused on the wellbeing of indigenous birth workers and the communities they serve.

We acknowledge the United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous People. We affirm the dignity and value of all Indigenous Midwives.

We recognize Midwives as traditional healers, medicine people, and the guardians of birth sovereignty. We believe Indigenous Midwives are recognized foremost by the community they serve, not by a colonized credential. We believe Midwives are accountable, in a human rights framework, to the practice of medicine and saving lives by lifelong learning and experience.

We honor Africans and African Americans as our beloved relatives and promise to work hand in hand to address the harm of slavery past and present. We believe our relationships to our bodies, ceremony and to one another is key for revolutionary healing.
