Somatic Education
Indigenous Birth secured funding to form a beautiful cohort of Indigenous Midwives (comprised of Native and Indigenous leaders) to learn Pre and Perinatal somatics for their own healing, as well as the healing of the community. In 2026-2027, the Indigenous Midwives cohort will continue with advanced trauma supportive education which they will adapt for their communities. Indigenous Birth hired the Belvedere Integrated Healing Arts, facilitated by Kate White, and was in partnership with Phoenix Midwife to make this multiyear series of 9 modules manifest for this incredible group. Indigenous Birth is thrilled to be sponsoring somatic education for indigenous midwives and midwifery students.
The Somatic Training for the Indigenous Midwives cohort has been graciously supported through funding from Maricopa County (2022-2023), Chicago Beyond (2024) and Perigee Fund (2025-2026) with management, administrative and financial support by Phoenix Midwife.
As of September, 2026, we have had a total of 9 modules, consisting of 4 days each of class (36 training days), almost 30 participants from around the nation, contracting with local community to support the training. We have 12-15 midwives pursuing advanced Pre and Perinatal Dynamics for advanced skills in 2027-2028. The modules will also include a specific training on the baby’s experience.
